Angelina Jolie is “bee-ing” brave and spreading awareness for bee conservation efforts.
The glamorous star sat down with National Geographic for an exclusive World Bee Day interview and posed for photos, taken by Dan Winters, with the high-flying insects.
The conservation of bees is a cause that is very close to the Mr & Mrs Smith actress’ heart. Jolie told the outlet,
“With so much we are worried about around the world and so many people feeling overwhelmed with bad news and the reality of what is collapsing, this is one that we can manage.” The activist is encouraging people do their “part,” explaining, “We can certainly all step in.”
In a world where there are many ways to protect our earth and its creatures, the 45-year-old said she believes that the conservation of bees is of the utmost importance. “I don’t think a lot of people know what damage they’re doing,” she said. “A lot of people are just trying to get through their day.”
“They want to do good. They don’t want to be destructive. They don’t know which thing to buy. They don’t know which thing to use. So I think part of this is wanting to help it be simple for everybody, because I need that.” the mother-of-six said.
Jolie explained that she understands that finding a way to do your part while living a hectic lifestyle can be challenging. “I have six kids and a lot happening,” she said of the children she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt. “And I don’t know how to be the ‘perfect’ anything. And so if we can help each other to say, ‘This is a way forward, simple, and this is something you can do with your kids.’”
The Maleficent actress was named “godmother” for Women for Bees, a program that was launched by the United Nation’s UNESCO and Guerlain. The program is designed to “train and support female beekeeper-entrepreneurs around the world.”
