LUKA MAGIC Luka Doncic has perfect response to ‘hit the treadmill’ taunts as Dallas Mavericks star makes history vs Atlanta Hawks

The taunts were inspired by an incident between Luka and an unruly fan during Dallas’ loss earlier in the week

DALLAS Mavericks star Luka Doncic has let his game do the talking to prove petty NBA fans wrong.

The Slovenian superstar dropped a record-breaking 41 first-half points against the Atlanta Hawks and set a new career-high in scoring after listening to “hit the treadmill” chants during the Friday clash.

Doncic, 24, went 16-for-21 from the field and hit five triples to set a new franchise record for points in a single half.

It previously belonged to Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 34 points in the second half of the 96-85 win over the Utah Jazz on March 11, 2009.

The 6-foot-9 guard went off as the Hawks faithful chanted “hit the treadmill” when he attempted free throws during the game.

The chants were inspired by an incident between Doncic and a heckler in the stands during Dallas’ 132-108 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.

During the third quarter of the Suns matchup, the unruly fan reportedly shouted: “Luka, you’re tired! Get your a** on the treadmill!”

The fan was eventually removed from the arena upon the Mavs star’s request.

The heckler “left without further incident after being approached by arena staff,” ESPN reported.

Doncic addressed the altercation on TNT’s Inside the NBA the following day.

And he said that emotions got the best of him.

“I was really frustrated we were losing,” Luka said.

“I twisted my ankle in the first half. It was just a lot of emotions. I probably shouldn’t have done that.

“When I’m wrong, I admit it.”

It’s not the first time Doncic was subjected to nasty taunts in Atlanta with Mavericks writer Grant Afseth reporting that the Slovenian heard “you are fat” chants from the crowd last season.

Luka ended up setting a new career-high in scoring on Friday, topping his previous best of 60 points he recorded against the New York Knicks in December 2022.

He scored 73 points, the most since Kobe Bryant’s 81 against the Toronto Raptors in 2006, tying Wilt Chamberlain and David Thompson for fourth-most all-time in a single NBA game.

The Mavs star’s big night came on the fourth anniversary of Bryant’s tragic death.

Doncic shot 25-for-33 (75.8%) from the field and knocked down eight of his 13 three-point attempts (61.5%).

He added 10 rebounds and seven assists, leading Dallas to a 148-143 win over the Hawks.
