The San Francisco 49ers have received lots of criticism for their decision to take the football first after Super Bowl 58 went into overtime.

That some players admitted they weren’t aware of the overtime rules has left them looking even worse. And they were even catching strays during Friday’s NBA Celebrity All-Star Game.

Analyst and commentator Richard Jefferson was on the call for the event and, while speaking about the complexity of the new rules, with multiple novelties introduced during the game itself, he chose to poke some fun at the Niners.

“If you don’t know the rules, it can be very detrimental. Just ask the 49ers,” he said during ESPN’s broadcast.

Ouch!

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan has since explained that he wanted the third possession of the period in case the game would have been tied after both teams got their opportunity.

However, Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid said his team would have gone for a touchdown and two-point conversion had San Francisco gotten into the end zone on their drive anyway.
